Cleaning day 1

Last night we after moving in about 8 bankers boxes of random stuff. Amanda mixed up a disinfectant wash and we took two giant sponges and attacked the bathroom. The level of slime that had built up on everything was nothing short of astonishing. We started at 8:00 with the hilarious notion of doing a couple rooms before we went home for the night. At 10:15 we looked at our watches and the 3/4 scrubbed bathroom and decided that we needed to at least finish scrubbing the bathroom that night.(All photos on this post taken with camera phone with no auto-focus I appologize)
The bathroom itself is pretty standard fair from 1982 pink wall paper and linoleum tile. Apparently the vanity is actual oak, however it the doors have been wall-papered on. No doubt some ill-advised fad form the 1980's that leaves us expecting to have to replace the entire unit one day. We got a chance to try out the tub and shower head again. No leaks, we do fully intend on replacing the shower-head however after disinfecting the entire room, I wouldn't even mind taking a shower in there. The room is abhorrently dark being a bathroom with no windows, and one dingy 55-watt incandescent. Along with the typical 80's fluorescent that is afraid to turn on all the way. George Carlin was right isn't there some sort of counseling we could get these lights?
We got home and fell into bed. Amanda had a crazy early meeting the this morning so we got up like zombies and stumbled around eating breakfast. We loaded about 8 more bankers boxes and one of the huge tubs that has made every move with us into the car and headed for her office. After dropping her off I got to the house about 7:45 and my shift starts at 10:00 so I unloaded all the boxes and what not and then dug out the bag of CFL light bulbs. The basement has been notoriously unlit since the first time we saw the house so I went down and replaced all the blown bulbs and finally got to take a good look at where my studio will one day be. It really is a big space and when its lit properly you can see the potential.

After replacing the lights it was only like 8:00 so I grabbed the vacuum and started vacuuming the horrifying pink carpet in the living room. The carpet seemed quite un-salvageable until I hit it with the vacuum. I don't think it had ever been vacuumed. Also I should say how amazing all those menial chores that you complain about as a kid become these awesome fulfilling endeavors when you "own" the house. 3 times over the carpet and it was starting to look like it might actually be stand-able for a few months. I took the vacuum upstairs and started in on the hallway and bedrooms. The carpet upstairs is in much better shape, and I think a good run with a carpet cleaner of some-sort really aught to work wonders. I even took the brush add-on and went around all the trim boards vacuuming up the bizarre clingy lint.

After that as all said and done I still had about 30 minutes so I took a magic eraser sponge and set in on the kitchen cupboards. There is at least 3 days of work just cleaning the random and inexplicable grossness off of these. I got one cupboard cleaned to a point I wouldn't mind pulling a plastic cup out of it before I had to head to work.

Tonight we are hoping to scrub the walls up stairs and maybe continue in on the kitchen, we'll have to see what we get too.
I've invited a group of you to read this blog, if you can think of any ideas or suggestions for this entire process feel free to comment below. This is to be blog that only invited people can read as we don't want any random person reading our story but if you have another person you would like to be allowed to read let us know and we'll try to get them an invite.
